Readings

Blog on Reading:
I will ask that you blog about the book edited by Renate Eigenbrod and RenĂ©e Hulan,  ABORIGINAL ORAL TRADITIONS: Theory, Practice, Ethics.

What did you think generally of the book?

This book was a good mix of essays and stories that were put together for the use of Aboriginal readers and other readers alike.   It is composed of Oral Traditions written by many authors that within their essays shared thier own opinions also.

Please briefly describe your three favourite authors in the book and explain why they are your favourites.
My three favorite Authors in the book were Catherine Martin, Stephen Augustine, and Andrea Bear Nicholas. Catherine Martin shared a story about the little boy that stayed with the "Bear woman" ,  Stephen Augustine wrote an essay on how the mikmaq people were never conquered and how we never surrendered and Andrea Nicholas shared how many errors the non natives have written about the Mikmaq Oral traditions.

What did you learn about the theory, practice and ethics on Oral History?
I have learned that there are still many stories that i havent heard and still many fact and history i have to learn.

Would you recommend this book?  Explain your answer.

Yes i would recommend this book to everyone i know, the book will inspire others to open thier ears to anyone, mainly elders, that has a story to tell.  My mother would take an interest with this book also, i would recommend this to her also.

What did you enjoy most about the book?

I enjoyed the powerful story from Stephen Augustine on how the land was never surrendered and that the Mikmaq people never bowed to anyone.
